Newly completed in 2021, Shuangda Lu has quickly become arguably the most iconic road in western Beijing.
Located deep in the remote western mountains of Mentougou, the road seems almost purposefully built for cyclists. The road is smooth, the bends are wide and open, and the views are simply incredible as the road hangs on the mountainside and often passes over free-standing overpasses.
There are no significant towns or villages nearby, meaning the road is very quiet and is only really used by cyclists (and also noisy motorcycle clubs).
To get there, you can either embark on an all-day round trip from the city (200km+), or take private transportation to one of the nearby villages along the G109 highway from where you can reach the climb. Whichever you choose, you will be rewarded for your efforts. This is Beijing West Cycling heaven.
