Beijing West Cycling 京西骑行群 group headed to Da’an Mountain 大安山 in south-west Beijing this past weekend. It was the first time for many of us to visit this little visited mountain but we were rewarded with some spectacular scenery on this new route for the group. Meeting at 6:30 a.m. at Wukesong 五棵松, we headed south-west out of the city, picking up the G108 which took us directly into the mountains. We had a quick drinks break before the climb, then began the 15km climb up from the G108 to the summit of Da’an mountain. Passing through narrow gorges, the climb was very steady but still challenging in places. Lots of interesting little villages, sculptures and local art could be seen along the way making the route even more interesting. Towards the summit, the road really kicked up and everyone was happy to reach the top, especially as the summit revealed spectacular views back down the valley. We plummeted back down the descent and the cruised back along the G108, taking in Jiangjuntuo 将军拖 and Jietai Si 戒台寺 on the way home. To finish the ride, we stopped at Shang Brew near Shougang Bridge 首钢大桥 for a well deserved team burger! Click on the ‘Join Us‘ tab above to join us on our next ride.
